Squaredle Quest

Terms of Use

The rules for using Squaredle Quest. Short, because the game is free and there is little to argue about.

Last updated 6 September 2026

The short version

Squaredle Quest is free to play, every day, and you do not need an account for any of it.

Play it yourself. Do not point a solver at it, and do not take the puzzles and republish them elsewhere.

It is a daily word game run by one person. It comes with no guarantees, and when it breaks the remedy is that it gets fixed.

Who runs Squaredle Quest

Squaredle Quest, at squaredle.quest, is operated by Glentertainment, based in New Zealand. Using the site means accepting these terms.

Playing

There is a new puzzle every day and it costs nothing. An account is optional; it exists so that your streak and your part-finished boards follow you between devices, and nothing about the game is withheld from a player who never signs in.

Your account

  • Sign in with an email address you control.
  • You must be at least 13 years old to hold an account.
  • An account is yours alone. Do not share it, and do not sign in as anybody else.
  • We may suspend or remove an account that breaks these terms. We will tell you why, unless telling you would defeat the point.

Your nickname

You do not need an account to appear on a leaderboard. Finish a board without one and your result is listed as “Anonymous”; sign in and your nickname goes on it instead.

Your nickname is the only thing about you other players see, and it is shown beside your scores. Pick something you would not mind a stranger reading.

  • It must not be offensive, and it must not be chosen to harass anybody.
  • It must not impersonate another player, a real person, or Squaredle Quest itself.

We may change or remove a nickname that breaks these rules, and an account used to keep doing it may be suspended. Some names are refused automatically; that check is not perfect in either direction, and if a reasonable name of yours is refused, write to us and we will look at it.

Fair play

The whole game is one shared board a day, so what one player does affects what the puzzle is worth to everyone. Please do not:

  • use a solver, bot, script or any automated tool to play a board or to submit a result;
  • extract, copy, scrape or republish the puzzles, the word lists, or any other part of the site;
  • interfere with the site, or attempt to reach data belonging to anyone else;
  • use another player's account, or hold an account in order to evade a suspension.

What is promised, and what is not

Squaredle Quest is provided as it is. There is no promise that it will always be available, that it will be free of faults, or that every word on every board is judged correctly — deciding which words are ordinary English is a genuinely hard problem and the answer is sometimes wrong.

Features may change or be withdrawn. It is a free daily puzzle run by one person, and one day it may stop; if that happens, notice will be given here first.

Who owns what

The site, its code, its design, the Squaredle Quest mark and the puzzles generated for it belong to Glentertainment.

You are welcome to play them, to share your own results, and to write or talk about the game. You may not copy the puzzles, redistribute them, or use them to build a competing service.

Word data, and the people it came from

The dictionary behind the game is built from open datasets. Two of them carry conditions we are glad to meet.

WordNet 3.0 Copyright 2006 by Princeton University. All rights reserved. This software and database is provided “as is” and Princeton University makes no representations or warranties, express or implied. By way of example, but not limitation, Princeton University makes no representations or warranties of merchantability or fitness for any particular purpose or that the use of the licensed software, database or documentation will not infringe any third party patents, copyrights, trademarks or other rights. The name of Princeton University or Princeton may not be used in advertising or publicity pertaining to distribution of the software and/or database.

The list used to keep certain words off the boards comes from the naughty-words dataset, used under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence.

Not connected to squaredle.app

Squaredle Quest at squaredle.quest is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected in any way to squaredle.app, which was created by Michael Giuffrida in 2022, nor to any other app or site of a similar name.

If you are looking for one of those, this is not it.

Liability

So far as the law allows, Glentertainment is not liable for any loss arising out of your use of Squaredle Quest, including a lost streak, lost progress, or the site being unavailable when you wanted to play.

Nothing in these terms limits rights you hold as a consumer that cannot be excluded by agreement. In New Zealand that includes the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the Fair Trading Act 1986; if you are a consumer in the United Kingdom, the European Union or elsewhere, your own consumer rights are likewise unaffected.

Changes to these terms

When these terms change, the date at the top of the page changes with them, and anything material is announced in the app. Continuing to play after a change means accepting it.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and the New Zealand courts have jurisdiction over any dispute. This does not deprive you of the protection of any law that must apply where you live.

Your information

What Squaredle Quest collects, and what happens to it, is set out in the Privacy Policy.
